A Souvenir for New York: personalized mass memories.

Souvenirs often follow standard patterns.

They are mass-produced objects, usually made of plastic, that accumulate in drawers and often end up as waste.

This project aims to challenge that pattern by offering a way to create an extremely personal souvenir, while also seeking to reduce environmental waste.

Instead of producing new items, we propose a system of decals designed to be applied to vintage pieces sourced from New York's flea markets and thrift stores.

A simple process transforms an ordinary plate, glass, or ceramic item into a unique memory of the city.

The result is a one-of-a-kind souvenir that carries both the history of its original form and the personal story of its selection and customization.

This idea goes beyond traditional souvenir production, minimizing waste, avoiding plastic, and encouraging a deeper connection between our experiences and the objects we bring home.

The Sergio Mannino Studio souvenir for NYCxDESIGNxSOUVENIR 2025 tells the story of finding, choosing, and creating—transforming an everyday gesture into something unique and memorable.

The second edition of xSouvenir will take place during New York Design Week at the Canvas Gallery inside Calatrava’s Westfield Oculus.

Conceived and curated by Boym Partners, the exhibition brings together the work of 72 designers, each invited to capture a fragment of New York’s restless spirit in a single collectible object.
