Born in 1942 in Munich, Herzog has directed, produced, and written around 70 films, spanning both fiction and documentaries.

Among his most notable works are Fitzcarraldo and Grizzly Man.

In addition to directing, Herzog boasts over 30 acting credits in films and television series.

Currently, at the age of 81, he is filming Bucking Fastard in Ireland and has recently completed the documentary Ghost Elephants in Africa.

Expressing gratitude for the award, Herzog stated, “I’m not finished yet,” emphasizing his continued dedication to cinema.

The artistic director of the Venice Film Festival, Alberto Barbera, praised Herzog, calling him a “tireless explorer” who has continually pushed the boundaries of cinematic storytelling.

The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement was established in 1971 to honor individuals who have made distinguished contributions to the world of cinema.

Over the years, the award has been presented to notable figures such as Federico Fellini, Sophia Loren, and Martin Scorsese.

In 2024, the honor went to Sigourney Weaver and Peter Weir.

The official selection of films competing at the 82nd Venice Film Festival will be announced in July 2025.
